Not sure to be honest. I can't see the 8450 on avasys site (epson linux drivers). I did get my printer to work in PCLinuxOS using the DX4800 as the proper one didn't register with PCLinuxOS. So it might work can't say for definate. All I can say is give it a try if already have the printer.
I've tried this tutorial with my printer Epson Stylus DX8400. The scanner works fine but the printer doesn't work at all in Ubuntu 8.10. I have got the message: "can't write page 1 header" and nothing is printed.

Would this procedure work for the DX8450 all-in-one or are the differences between Epson's models too great?

I'm using 8.0.4 LTS so not sure why it does not work with your version. Try asking in the Ubuntu forums to see if anyone there has an answer for you.
